Mayor Must Stop Secret Meetings12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 7th Jun 2002 GLA Liberal Democrats have welcomed a report by the Assembly's Planning Committee that criticises the Mayor for meeting property developers and architects immediately before taking planning decisions in private on the capital's future. Sally Hamwee, Liberal Democrat planning spokesperson, said: "Liberal Democrats are committed to open government, as shown by the actions of Lib Dem run councils across London." "Decisions made by the Mayor must be transparent so that Londoners know what is happening in their city. "The old style of politics, with secret meetings and decisions being made which cannot be scrutinised by elected Assembly members, cannot be allowed in London's new regional government."
