Possible New Bus Service For Grove Park Thanks To Lib Dem Petition

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 13th Jun 2002

Residents in Grove Park and Sydenham could be looking forward to a much-needed new bus service thanks to a campaign by local Liberal Democrats.

Liberal Democrats in Lewisham raised a petition among local residents that was handed in to the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, by Liberal Democrat London Assembly member Lynne Featherstone on 10 April.

The Mayor has now written to Ms Featherstone in response to the petition, and has said that a new service is under consideration:

"London Buses..will look again at how to provide a service from Grove Park to Sydenham along Downham Way, Northover and Whitefoot Lane. They will contact you and the local authority closer to the review time to discuss ideas and issues."

Lynne Featherstone commented:

"Lewisham Liberal Democrats have worked hard to get the bus, and we now have to make sure the Mayor's promise is turn into action."
