Strike threat should be called off immediately

9.21.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 21st Jun 2004

The London Assembly Liberal Democrats have today condemned a planned 24-hour rail and Tube workers' strike which would bring travel misery to millions.

Lynne Featherstone, transport spokesperson and chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee, said:

"This is appalling news for Londoners. It appears that once again commuters in the capital are being held hostage by the unions, whose argument is with managers not Londoners.'

"The Mayor of London should show his solidarity to fellow commuters, rather than the unions, and condemn this strike. This is his chance to show that he is no easy walkover when it comes to dealing with union demands."
