Mayor should drop PPP action in wake of Tube crash12.00.00am GMT Mon 27th Jan 2003 Mayor Ken Livingstone should abandon his legal action against PPP for the London Underground in the wake of the Chancery Lane Tube crash. Lynne Featherstone, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson at the London Assembly said: "Ken should drop the legal action so he can take charge of the Tube. We need a step change in management and maintenance. Labour won't let him take over while his legal case is pending. Londoners want an end to the wrangling and some real action to make the Tube safe." "Ken has to win cast-iron guarantees from Alistair Darling that London's taxpayers won't be left to pick up the bill for PPP. Then it's time to get serious work on the Tube under way. Chancery Lane is a wake-up call: we don't have time for any more political point-scoring."
