Mike speaks for the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group on housing, planning, the environment and the budget. Mike is a former member of the GLC and was a member of Lambeth Council 1990-2002 and Lib Dem Leader for 8 years, including 4 years as joint council leader.
He is a member of London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority as well as having served between 2002 to 2008, latterly as leader of the Lib Dem group.
Mike is a member of the newly created London Police and Crime Committee which examines the work of the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPC) and reviews the police and crime plan for London. Mike is also a member of a number of other London Assembly committees: the Environment Committee, the Planning and Housing Committee and the Budget and Performance Committee, which he is deputy chair of.
Mike is a chartered accountant by profession and worked as a charity manager before setting up a successful small business, advising large companies on becoming more socially and environmentally responsible. He supports several community, civil liberties and environmental causes. Mike and his young family live in Clapham.
