Mayor's economic strategy states the obvious, but little else - Dee Doocey on Mayor's proposals for economic development

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 13th May 2009

Dee Doocey, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly spokesperson on the economy, commenting on the Mayor's draft economic strategy said:

"The Mayor's has set out some fine principles about the economic development of London, but in reality little else. Setting out that London needs to remain competitive and transforming to a low carbon economy is saying little more than the obvious.

"The Mayor is also proposing a strategy for the capital's economy before even publishing other key strategies. His transport strategy and the London Plan should be integral to the Mayor's vision for the development of London's economy. The Mayor's economic strategy can't stand in perfect isolation from these major areas of policy.

"As well as setting out more specific ideas the Mayor should also urgently address the way that small and medium sized businesses are being let down by this administration. Far from helping businesses at present the Mayor is overseeing huge delays in the payment of bills to London's small businesses."
