7.06.00pm GMT Thu 5th Feb 2009

Dee Doocey, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Olympic spokesperson, commenting on today's announcement by Boris Johnson and the Government to create a dedicated 2012 legacy delivery company for the Olympic Park said:

"At a cost of £9.3 billion it would be unforgivable if a real and lasting legacy from the London Olympics was not delivered.

"I welcome one person being put in charge to ensure this huge area provides real opportunities for Londoners for many years to come.

"However, to really deliver on such an such an important task it is vital that the company has a proper budget - it must have the means to deliver. It is also needs to be crystal clear as to who this new company will be accountable to and how it will be scrutinised."
