"Does the views of Londoners mean nothing to this Government?" - Caroline Pidgeon

10.57.00am GMT Thu 15th Jan 2009

Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat Assembly Transport spokesperson, commenting on the expected decision by Ministers to approve plans to build a third runway at Heathrow airport said:

"The decision by Ministers to go ahead with a third runway at Heathrow is a huge insult to Londoners.

"In last year's Mayoral elections the three main candidates were united in opposing a Heathrow's third runway. There is total opposition to a third runway from Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat Assembly Members. And across London the majority of London Boroughs are members of the 2M organisation opposing the further expansion of Heathrow airport.

"It is incredible that the Government plans to ignore such widespread opposition to a third runway. It really seems the views of Londoners mean nothing to this Government."
