£750,000 lost to foreign drivers - Pope

10.27.00am GMT Mon 11th Feb 2008

Non-payment of penalty charge notices by foreign registered vehicles is estimated to have reached £750,000 last year, the London Assembly Liberal Democrats have discovered.

Geoff Pope, Transport Spokesman for the London Assembly Liberal Democrats said:

"It is high time that ports were equipped with the technology to stop foreign drivers from boarding ferries or using the Channel Tunnel until they have paid their penalty fines.

"This is a huge loss in revenue for London. The Mayor is far too complacent about our finances."
