Mayor "caves in"and appoints Liberal Democrats to London Fire Authority5.03.21pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 20th Jun 2007 The Mayor of London this morning announced that he was going to appoint the three original Liberal Democrats nominees to the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. Mike Tuffrey and Geoff Pope will be nominated from the London Assembly. Councillor Ed Butcher from Haringey - chosen after a ballot of Lib Dem councillors in London - will be the Lib Dem nominee from London Councils. Speaking after the Mayor had announced his decision at a meeting of the London Assembly, Mike Tuffrey Leader of the Liberal Democrat group at the Assembly and on LFEPA said: "The Mayor has caved in, in agreeing to appoint our original nominees. In so doing he has acknowledged our commitment on the issues he raised. We can now get on with making sure London's fire and emergency service functions efficiently."
