"EXTRA TUBE CARRIAGE MUST NOT LEAD TO MORE PASSENGER DISRUPTION" - POPE4.36.04pm GMT Wed 6th Dec 2006 Commenting on the announcement by Transport Commissioner Peter Hendy today that the Circle and Hammersmith and City Lines are to be fitted with an extra carriage by late 2009, Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson on the London Assembly, Geoff Pope, said: "We welcome the announcement of an extra carriage on some of London's busiest tube lines. Platforms will have to be extended on some stations, which is bound to mean new disruptions and building work. "It is essential that TfL keep any delays to people's journey into work to the bare minimum. The last thing we want is the kind of mess-up that occurred recently due to contractor overruns when tube lines were not handed back in time for the morning's rush hour. London already has one misery line, we don't need another two." ENDS
