Lib Dems Pass On Residents' Complaints About Bus Garage To Mayor

Lynne Featherstone, GLA Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson, commenting on her meeting with Mayor Ken Livingstone and head of London Buses Peter Hendy about residents' complaints over the Holloway bus garage, said:

"The Mayor is keen to back his bus improvement policy by exploring the possibility of new 'brownfield' sites for state-of-the-art bus garages. Kings' Cross and Stratford may be in the frame."

"However, the Holloway garage at Archway remains crucial to bus operation. London Buses and Metroline both see the advantages of a 'good neighbour' policy. Street management upgrades in the immediate area of the garage may avoid queues of buses in crowded residential roads.

"We shall be writing to all residents close to the garage to give them the chance to give us their views. We'll be working with colleagues on Islington Council on the planning issues. We want to re-establish a group of representative residents willing to work with Metroline to resolve day-to-day management problems."
