Public Health England research provides just further evidence that air pollution is the second biggest public health issue facing the capital – Stephen Knight

Stephen Knight AM, Liberal Democrat London Assembly environment spokesperson, commenting on today's Public Health England report "Estimating Local Mortality Burdens associated with Particulate Air Pollution said:

"This is just the latest scientific report confirming that air pollution remains the second biggest public health risk facing Londoners after smoking."

"The figure given in this report that an estimated 3389 Londoners faced an early grave due to air pollution is very similar to previous scientific estimates.

"These horrific figures highlight the chasm between the Mayor's rhetoric on tackling air pollution and the reality at street level of high levels of pollution facing far too many Londoners."
