The Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group have reiterated their long standing opposition to the Western Extension Zone as part of their detailed submission to the consultation on changes to the Congestion Charge.
In addition to supporting the abolition of the Western Extension Zone the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group have set out a range of targeted and effective measures to specifically tackle pollution in central London, through the creation of a Clean Air Zone. All vehicles entering the zone, based on the existing Congestion Charge zone and Western Extension areas, would have to meet minimum standards on air pollution.
The Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group also set out proposals to tackle congestion hotspots outside the the Congestion Charging Zone and state their strong support for the roll-out of local 'Smarter Travel' schemes as have already been successfully implemenetd in Richmond and Sutton.
