With just 1000 days left until the start of London Paralympic Games Dee Doocey, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Olympics spokesperson said:
"Very specific and bold promises were made about the Paralympic Games when London won the right to host the 2012 Games. We were told that the Paralympics would play a key role in changing people's attitudes towards disabled people both in the UK and around the world. It was also claimed that the Games would be a force unlike any other to train UK Paralympians and coaches and to dramatically advance Paralympic sport. But to date there is nothing to suggest this is happening"
"We now have only 1000 days left to deliver on these promises, and there is a huge task ahead of us. The Paralympics must not be treated as an afterthought. Crucially, the Paralympic Games must be broadcast on freeview television in the same way as the Olympics."

Notes to editors:
Unlike the Olympics the broadcasting contract for the Paralympic Games has not yet been set. The Olympics are a 'listed' event in legislation and must be broadcast on freeview television. The Paralympics are not covered in a similar way
