Sally was appointed a Life Peer in 1991 and is now Leader of the Liberal Democrat Environment, Transport and the Regions team in the House of Lords. She is a member of the Council of Management (and past-chair) of Refuge and a Member of the Governing Council of the Family Policy Studies Centre. In addition she is president of the Town and Country Planning Association. Sally was a Councillor for the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames for 20 years from 1978 to 1998 and from 1986 to 1994 she was chair of the London Planning Advisory Committee.
